What has happened to the Tea Party Revolution? by Political Cynic

What has happened to the Tea Party Revolution? Allen West will, now, only take written questions from his constituents during public meetings and has anyone who does not follow those rules forcibly ejected  by ‘security’ and some have been arrested. Political meetings can be raucous, freewheeling and even disrespectful, it comes with the territory.  Paul Ryan, the Republican Fantasy Budget Mastermind, sneaks out of a meeting with voters by the back entrance and leaves in a borrowed patrol car. It hasn’t been long since the swearing in took place for these congressmen, yet they have very quickly acquired the habits of autocrats. Where is the banner of Freedom that they constantly waved during their relentless campaign against The Obama Tyranny? It’s on the scrap heap of political discards and in the place of Freedom is the lockstep of a Republican Party in the grasp of the zealots and No-Nothings, fully committed to the destruction of the last vestiges of The New Deal.  And the voters in their districts are hopping mad and aren’t being quiet about it. Any surprises here? The rapidity of the onset of political disenchantment with the Tea Party Jacobins doesn’t bode well for the campaign of 2012, even under the leadership of the dimwitted carnival barker Donald Trump.

About stephenkmacksd

Rootless cosmopolitan, down at heels intellectual;would be writer. 'Polemic is a discourse of conflict, whose effect depends on a delicate balance between the requirements of truth and the enticements of anger, the duty to argue and the zest to inflame. Its rhetoric allows, even enforces, a certain figurative licence. Like epitaphs in Johnson’s adage, it is not under oath.' https://www.lrb.co.uk/v15/n20/perry-anderson/diary
