2010 and the Invention of the Zero : The Christmas Episode in the American Political Melodrama

Here we have the heart wrenching news of the Zero’s and their lack of bonuses, this year, in the New York Banking business. Nelson D. Schwartz and Susanne Craig in the December 19,2010 New York Times  breathlessly recount the awful news, in all it shocking and disheartening detail. The report is alive with disappointment; perhaps a harbinger of the diminution of the dog eat dog vulgarized Social Darwinism, wedded to un-reflective masculine privilege that so dominates American Capitalism? One is reminded of the scene in A Christmas Carol where the ghost of Christmas Future alludes to the death of Tiny Tim. Shocked and horrified a grieving Scrooge resolves to help change the future by compensatory acts of charity, in the present. Could the sacrifice of the Zero’s be such an act of compensation, albeit from the top down? And this being fully congruent with Capitalist Feudalism’s practice.

About stephenkmacksd

Rootless cosmopolitan, down at heels intellectual;would be writer. 'Polemic is a discourse of conflict, whose effect depends on a delicate balance between the requirements of truth and the enticements of anger, the duty to argue and the zest to inflame. Its rhetoric allows, even enforces, a certain figurative licence. Like epitaphs in Johnson’s adage, it is not under oath.' https://www.lrb.co.uk/v15/n20/perry-anderson/diary
