Journalism vs Churnalsim!

http://techcrunch.com/2011/03/13/john-montorio-joins-huffington-post/#

"Make no mistake there’s a battle raging for the soul of new media. Not the clichéd war between print and Web or between Silicon Valley and New York, but rather a series of internal battles being fought within nearly every publication. It’s the battle between  journalism and churnalism."

Is there anything like the self-congratulatory hubris of 'Professional Journalists'? Is it analogous to the constant talk of 'Art' on The Academy Awards? Professional Journalists have failed like Capitalism! Don't lecture the audience about your competence and probity while not having demonstrated it. Where is your I.F. Stone speaking truth to power? It's more like Bill Keller clearing stories with the White House! The growth of Internet 'churnalism' is the index of the failure of 'Professional Journalism' to deliver the goods! It has opened the field to a necessary criticism and practice not an obsequious courtier-ship.

About stephenkmacksd

Rootless cosmopolitan, down at heels intellectual;would be writer. 'Polemic is a discourse of conflict, whose effect depends on a delicate balance between the requirements of truth and the enticements of anger, the duty to argue and the zest to inflame. Its rhetoric allows, even enforces, a certain figurative licence. Like epitaphs in Johnson’s adage, it is not under oath.' https://www.lrb.co.uk/v15/n20/perry-anderson/diary
